The Lancet Digest, October 16th – 22nd 2009
This week’s Lancet Editorials are on unsafe abortions, the difficulties of treating ovarian cancer and organ donation in the UK.
The Articles are on treating ovarian cancer with weekly paclitaxel and carboplatin, reducing febrile contractions by administering paracetamol during vaccinations, comparing conventional ventilatory support and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in severe adult respiratory failure, and bacteraemia in Kenyan children with sickle-cell anaemia. These are accompanied by Comments on dose sensitive chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, paracetamol in paediatric vaccination, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and sickle-cell anaemia.
The World Report is on financial rewards for organ donors and the Asia-Pacific region’s disaster-preparedness plans. Also of interest to global health this week is a Comment on the ‘killing season’ for newly qualified doctors and a Perspective on Patricia Garcia’s work on healthcare in Peru.
