This week’s Lancet is jam packed as ever with articles of interest to global health readers. Do register on The Lancet’s new website to get access to the free content. The issue kicks off with an Editorial telling President-elect Obama exactly what The Lancet thinks that he should do to improve the health of Americans and the world. Its quickly followed by a scathing editorial calling into question the moral standing of the UK government finding the money to bail out the banks but not finding the money to invest in the NHS.

Again this weeks issue has a strong focus on China with the Health System Reform Series continuing by discussing injury-related fatalities and human resources for health. Comments discuss the five phases of evolution for China’s Health System and the impact of exclusion of migrants from China’s urban centres, especially focusing on infectious diseases, poor maternal health and occupational health.

In other comments there is a discussion around the fact that Healthcare Acquired Infections are omitted from the World Health Organisation’s new Global Burden of Disease Report.

Coinciding with Oxfam’s report discussing ways to diversify the research and development environment there is a discussion of the Onchocerciasis Control Programme, a disease which affects 36 million people world wide.

The correspondence section highlights an article from a previous issue on Rwanda’s Health system with some founded criticisms and a good response from the authors.
