Monash University and the Asian Medical Students’ Association are excited to be hosting the 2009 EA Medical Students’ Conference. With the theme Engaging Asia-Pacific Youth in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS, this conference will be a major capacity building event; empowering and up-skilling over 320 training doctors to become HIV/AIDS ambassadors in their own communities; spreading the conference messages well beyond this group of young leaders. The 4 days will see a mixture of academic, social and cultural programs emphasising capacity building in advocacy and leadership skills. In addition, this open and accepting environment will foster lasting, tangible collaborations between future doctors and their communities across the region.
The conference:
What? “Engaging Asia-Pacific Youth in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS”, a conference of medical students and youth leaders from the Asia-Pacific Region
Who? Over 320 medical students from more than 22 Asia, Pacific and Island nations in collaboration with regional NGOs and government bodies
Where? A collaboration of the Asian Medical Students’ Association and Monash University, held at their Kuala Lumpur campus, Malaysia
When? January 7th to 11th, 2009
Why? To up-skill, engage and empower youth leaders and future doctors from the Asia-Pacific region, to encourage information exchange, learning, collaborations and lasting friendships
With? Expected collaborators include AUSAID, Malaysian AIDS Council, Youth Empowerment Against HIV (YEAH), Y-PEER, UNAIDS, International AIDS Society, Oxfam, The Lancet Student, MTV and more.
This event and its messages can be spread even further with your assistance; we hope you welcome the challenge.
