Looking Ahead

Hi everyone, this week we intend to enlighten you about two interesting and upcoming conferences in the arena of global health. The first is on nuclear proliferation and its’ impact on health. The second is run by the global health forum and looks at research challenges for health in developing countries.

“Nuclear Proliferation: The final pandemic”

Nuclear proliferation has been a source of heated debate for many years. However, the impact that nuclear proliferation has on health has received renewed interest following the collapse of the 2005 Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

To refocus attention on preventing nuclear war and eliminating nuclear weapons, the hazards surrounding ionising radiation will be discussed at what promises to be a fascinating two-day international conference. This conference, titled “Nuclear Proliferation: The final pandemic”, will be held at the Royal Society of Medicine in London on October 3rd and 4th. It forms part of the Catastrophes and Conflict Forum and is in association with International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War and its UK affiliate Medact.

Among many pertinent issues, the conference topics will include the following:

The current global nuclear situation, the effects of regional nuclear war on the climate, the effects of radiation on health, and the use of highly enriched uranium to produce medical isotopes.

For those of you who are keen to attend, it’s a great opportunity to learn about all things nuclear. Students can register at the reduced price of £75, or for RSM student members: £25 (annual RSM student membership is just £30).

But you didn’t talk much about “global health forum and looks at research challenges for health in developing countries”.

However, I went to its homepage

    and this link
